Best Sorbet We Found in a Taste Test

August 2024 · 5 minute read

The best sorbet is light, creamy, and fresh. Sorbet—not to be confused with sherbet—makes the perfect summer dessert. In my opinion, it is the best way to end a meal. And don’t even get me started on sorbet when it’s hot outside. It’s so much more refreshing than dairy-filled ice cream when the temperatures start to soar (a hot take, I know).

I had the honor of leading our sorbet taste test and dipping my spoon into a wide variety of the best sorbets the grocery store has to offer. After trying everything from acai to chocolate, these sorbets have earned a spot among the best sorbet options you can buy.

Most Unique

Island Way Sorbet Ruby BerryInstacart

Once you get past the cuteness of these sorbets being stuffed inside actual fruit, you can appreciate how delicious they are. Each flavor is unique and tasty (minus lemony which tasted a little too soapy for us), but the Ruby Berry is the star of the show. It’s sweet, tangy, and fragrant. Snacking on one of these makes you feel like you are on a deserted island that ended up being kind of fun and sexy? I don’t know, just trust me!

Best Fruit Blend

Gelato Boy Triple Berry SorbetInstacart

I am now a gelato boy thanks to Gelato Boy’s Triple Berry Sorbet. This sorbet is rich and creamy, while being completely dairy free. The blend of berries gives it a unique flavor that is both tart and sweet. The color is beautiful. You could put this in a dish and serve it as a dessert at a dinner party. That’s how nice it is!

Most Fun

Great Value Red, White & Blue SorbetWalmart

If you’re a fan of Popsicle Firecrackers, you’re going to love this Great Value Red, White & Blue Sorbet. It’s got all the deliciousness of the on-a-stick version without the mess of it melting all over your hands. The cherry, blue raspberry, and lime sorbets are great individually and even better together. And, as always, since it’s Great Value, it’s so affordable it’s practically free. This would be a huge crowd pleaser with kids and adults. There is absolutely no reason not to buy this. It’s one of the best sorbets you can buy.

Best Not Too Sweet

Talenti Strawberry Margarita Sorbetto PairingsInstacart

Surprisingly, this dairy-free sorbetto from Talenti is sweet without being too sweet. It really tastes like a good strawberry margarita! It even kind of tastes like there’s alcohol in it, despite containing zero alcohol whatsoever. I imagine myself eating this sorbet out of a tiny glass bowl while sitting on a porch as the sun sets in July. I don’t have a porch and I hate being outside and I’ve never eaten ice cream out of anything other than the container it came in, but I can dream!

Best Wildcard

Talenti Dairy-Free Dark Chocolate SorbettoInstacart

I love a water-based chocolate treat. Yoo-hoo, Fudgsicles, and chocolate Italian ice are all 10/10 in my book. This Talenti Dairy-Free Dark Chocolate Sorbetto fits perfectly into this category. It’s creamy and icy and decadently chocolatey. Something to note is that this is not vegan (it contains eggs), so don’t feed it to your plant-based pals. But, I’m pleased to report that all you dairy-free folks won’t need a Lactaid before sinking your teeth into this. You might not think chocolate is one of the best sorbet flavors, but I promise this will change your mind.

Best Mango

Häagen-Dazs Mango SorbetInstacart

Häagen-Dazs is at it again with their mango sorbet. It’s absolutely perfect. Sometimes mango-flavored things can have a little bit of funk on the finish. Real mangos are also guilty of this. Of all the mango sorbets we tried, Häagen-Dazs’ mango sorbet was the only one that didn’t have that funky aftertaste. It just tastes like sweet, delicious mango. It’s rich and creamy and perfectly sweet. Add this one to your carts, mango lovers!

Best Berry

Häagen-Dazs Raspberry SorbetInstacart

I’m aware that Häagen-Dazs makes incredible dairy-based ice cream (their vanilla ice cream is our absolute favorite), but I had no idea Häagen-Dazs also makes absolutely perfect vegan sorbets. This raspberry sorbet is tangier, sweeter, and creamier than the other berry sorbets we tried during our taste test. I kept going back for bite after bite. It’s sensational as is, but it’s also the best sorbet to drizzle with instant-hardening chocolate shell or hot fudge. Talk about a dessert dream come true.

Best of the Best

Open Nature Lemon SorbetInstacart

I firmly believe that lemon sorbet is the most elite sorbet flavor. Nothing on the face of this planet is more refreshing. After my first bite of this Open Nature sorbet, I used the word “unbelievable” more than once. It is truly unfathomable to me that something without any dairy could feel so luscious and creamy. The lemon flavor is bright and tart. It has just the right amount of sweetness. This gave me flashbacks to being ten and eating Rita’s Italian Ice during the summer. Go buy this now! It isn’t just the best lemon sorbet, it’s the best sorbet of them all.
